There is something of the urgent prophetic imperative about Deirdre, a bold capacity to go deep and name the present as it is, and in her truth calling, summoning a future in strategic vision and clear words. In another time she would have been feted as a renaissance woman in the original meaning of the idea. Deirdre the truth-offerer, though gentle in her ways, does not pander to anybody's precious, preserved, protected but also paralysing phantom. She exorcises these in  myriad ways, smokes them out of closeted places in her determination to give of herself, her experiences and knowledge to help liberate the human imagination, heart, soul, spirit and mind. She personifies a fierce, daring, wise life-giving strength born from the African humus. To share work with Deirdre, whatever the project, suddenly becomes a life transforming journey.

We have worked with Deirdre Prins-Solani in various capacities over the last 10 years.  Most recently, she has become the Cultural Heritage Advisor to our Coalition--the International Coalition of Historic Sites of Exclusion and Resistance--in our quest for serial transnational World Heritage status for Hansen’s disease/leprosy heritage.  She has joined us in international forums in Belgium, the United States and Korea, to make presentations, and discuss and further this process with various stakeholders.  Deirdre is readily available to answer our questions, guiding us with her knowledge and expertise, through each step of a complex process.  However, what we truly appreciate about Deirdre, is her profound understanding that people and their unique experiences are the essence of our heritage work.  Deirdre’s distinctive qualities--intellect, commitment, energy, wisdom, depth, warmth and heart—that she brings to this project, have given us not only the knowledge, but the confidence and inspiration we need as we proceed.
